Teaching as a way to stay fresh
When I went back to school to get my Masters of Architecture I knew that eventually I would want to teach. There is something different that goes on in your head when you teach that is different when you are a student. It's almost a more efficient way to learn. Steven Covey in "7 Habits of Highly Effective People " recommends teaching the 7 principles immediately after learning them as a method for internalizing their meaning. Teaching architecture is just that, a way to refresh and internalize the principles behind the lessons. I currently adjunct at Florida State College at Jacksonville and St. Johns River Community College. Aside from keeping me fresh with the latest that Architecture and Interior design have to offer, it's a way to give back to my community. The classes are fun and the students are great! I've even brought some of my top students into the office as interns. Win Win Win.
