Being Downtown

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012
Growing up in Atlanta and going downtown was always an adventure. I was fortunate to be able to watch the city grow from a sleepy, Georgia town to a sprawling urban center. As a kid, going downtown was an exciting event. I loved the energy, the buildings and the people on the streets. Jacksonville is not much different from Atlanta in the late '60's. However, we still have a long way to go. One of the events that is helping Jacksonville is the Art Walk. The Art Walk is an opportunity to go downtown and interact with businesses; maybe go to a restarurant or hear some live music in Hemming Plaza. Last night at the Art Walk, JAA Architecture featured the work of two emerging artists, John and Nora Allmand. Their work was displayed throughout the office and several were sold. The primary benefactor being their father, John. I enjoy working downtown. The quirky people around Hemming Plaza, the great vibe of Chamblin's and the local restaurants make working downtown fun. So the next time you go downtown, stop by and see us. We would love to meet you. Richard Allen
